Hey Sword Machine reader! Are you aware that Tokyo Game Show 2008 kicks off in a week? Are you aware that various publishers will be holding press conferences before, during, and (maybe) after the event? Are you aware that TGS is one of the most popular events for JRPG announcements?
...If you weren't, what rock have you been living under?
Well, if you are sad that you won't physically be able to attend TGS this year, fear not, for Sword Machine has come up with a delightful way for you to keep track of TGS at home! No Japanese skills required!
Sword Machine TGS Bingo! Simply follow the rules below:
1. Print off tgs_bingo_2008.png (click on the image above)
2. Note that all 3 current systems and both current handhelds are listed at the top
3. Note that several major Japanese publishers are listed below each console
4. Follow along with Sword Machine's (or any other website/magazine/RSS feed/TV channel) for TGS coverage
5. When one of the listed publishers announces a NEW RPG title (as in, never before announced), write that title's name in the corresponding box and cross off that square
6. Fill in one row (up and down, side to side, or diagonally) to score a BINGO!
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Nintendo is listed as a publisher under Nintendo Wii. Nintendo typically does not attend TGS, but they are having a "not-TGS" press conference tomorrow (tonight North America time) which will be counted (for TGS Bingo purposes) towards the game, as will any other company's pre-TGS press conferences.
2. Nintendo does not appear under Nintendo DS. This is because I fully expect that there will be a zillion companies announcing DS titles, so I gave you a FREE spot there instead. You can use it in any way to complete a line.
3. Already announced titles do NOT count towards a BINGO, no matter how close their announcement may be to TGS. (For instance, Sony and FromSoftware's Demon's Souls, or Namco Bandai's Destiny Links were announced today via Famitsu, but not as part of TGS, so even if they are at the show, they no longer count).
4. Only one game per console per publisher will be counted towards a BINGO. So if Konami announces 5 new PSP RPGs (just as an example), you may only count one towards the BINGO. You are free to write them all down in the square if you wish though.
5. We don't actually have any prizes to give out to winners, and every card will be the same. TGS Bingo is solely for personal enjoyment with the upcoming show. Sword Machine is in no way responsible for awarding any prizes or compensation to those who play and/or win at TGS Bingo.
TGS Bingo kicks off officially tonight with Nintendo's Not-TGS Press Conference. Sword Machine will only be reporting on RPG news, so if you don't see a story here, it won't count on the score card (unless we totally miss something, in which case, please let us know in the comments).
Have fun!
P.S. Those of you waiting for Sword Machine's TGS Predictions, we are hoping to have them up some time tomorrow. They will not include any predictions about Nintendo's Not-TGS Press Conference tonight.
