Infinite Undiscovery hit stores in North America yesterday, and should be on European shelves tomorrow or Friday. To celebrate the launch of this game (which I have been anticipating since its announcement a couple years back), I present you with a blow-out of character details, translated by yours truly straight from the official Japanese website.
The first 18 characters are thought to be the 18 that join you in battle, while the remainder either play supporting or antagonistic roles. In total, there are 23 main characters outlined below. Some of the descriptions I have translated before, so don't trip out if it feels like you've already read some of them.
Note that, as usual, my translations may differ from the official translation. I have used the Englishized names as they were on the Japanese website, and have mentioned a few that I know what the official English translation is.
Capell (17)
”I’m not a warrior, I’m an entertainer! “The Healing Flutist Capell.” Haven’t you ever heard of me?
IU's protagonist, Capell is a kind-hearted young man with a distaste for violence. He is a self proclaimed performing artist, and goes by the title of "Healing Flutist Capell." He bears an uncanny resemblence to the Hero of Light, Sigmund, and is captured by the Sealed Army because of it. However, he is rescued by Aya for this same reason, and ends up working with her. Though he has no previous experience with swordplay, he takes to it incredibly quickly. His similarity in appearance to Sigmund, his quick adaptation to fighting skills, and the fact that he bears no glyph shroud this seemingly simple young man in mystery...
NOTE: His name in the Japanese version is romanized as "Capel."
Aya (16)
”You’ve… gotten stronger, haven’t you? Just a little bit though! Just a little, but…”
A member of the Liberation Forces, Aya had previously been traveling with Sigmund. Upon receiving misinformation claiming that Sigmund had been captured, she ends up freeing Capell from the Sealed Army.
Though she seems like she would be an average young woman, Aya is very active and opinionated, always trying her best to do what she believes in. However, she also has several inner fears and weaknesses, but tries hard to keep them hidden.
She begins to be drawn to Capell for some reason after freeing him...
Aya wields a bow and arrow in battle.
Sigmund (17)
”You don’t have to push yourself. You are fine just how you are.”
Being the only human alive capable of breaking the chains that bind the Moon, Sigmund has risen up against the Sealed Army. Out of respect for what he is trying to do, people have come to call him the Hero of Light (NOTE: it looks like he will be called Sigmund the Liberator in the English version).
Though he looks almost identical to Capell, their personalities are completely different. Sigmund tends to distance himself from others, and offers few words to those he encounters. Due to his mission, he has come to view his own life and existence as nothing more than tools to accomplish his task.
He wields a sword in battle.
Eduardo (17)
”It’s obvious! This guy is completely different than us. He doesn’t understand the meaning of battle. His life is more important to him than his honor.”
A member of the Liberation Forces, Eduardo strongly looks up to Sigmund, and often acts in whatever way he thinks will earn Sigmund's respect back. He is generally cool and collected, but when he does get angry, he becomes uncontrollable.
Driven by his ideals, Eduardo is often blind to the other circumstances around him. This tendency, coupled with Capell's position of trust with Sigmund, leads to many conflicts between the two (Capell and Eduardo, that is).
He wields a giant, two-handed sword in battle.
NOTE: The official English translation names him "Edward."
Luka (10)
Luka: ”Don’t worry about it! You’ve got me and Roka with you this time!”
Roka: “An easy win, right? Easy win!”
The brother of the set of twins from Montana Village, Luka is famous for being a child prodigy. In reality, he is quite the prankster, and is almost always found collaborating with his sister Roka.
His incredibly smart, but still has a child's lack of restraint in word and action. Thus, his speech is often interpreted by adults as deeply biting sarcasm.
NOTE: The official English translation names him "Rico."
Roka (10)
Luka: “Just as I thought. You’re hopeless without us!”
Roka: “Hopeless!”
The sister of the set of famous prodigy twins from Montana Village, her personality description is the same as her brother Luka's.
NOTE: The official English translation names her "Rucha."
Mirche (21)
”Oh, just look at what I fool I’ve made of myself. You showed me, Capell-kun. In exchange, how about your big sister teaches you something?”
The sexy older sister type, Mirche is blessed with the powers of healing magic, though she believes her own power to be useless.
She is a bit off from the pace of those around her, and prefers to do things in her own way and time. She is a spontaneous person (NOTE: this part of the translation is a little tricky, as it could also mean she is something of an airhead).
She has a strange affection for tea, and is never without her own personal tea set, even on the battlefield.
Mirche appears to fight with books.
NOTE: The official English translation names her "Michelle."
Eugene (26)
”Sigmund has changed since he met you. You two don’t just look alike. I’m sure there’s something else there.”
The successor to a great merchant, Eugene is also a long time acquaintance of Sigmund.
Never without a smile, he is kind to everyone he interacts with. However, on the flip side of his "everyone's friend" exterior, he occasionally has quite vicious thoughts.
He is always seen carrying an enormous backpack, but no one knows exactly what is inside of it.
Eugene seems to fight with a staff, and his official profile describes his class as a monk.
Balbagan (35)
”You filthy small fries! Don’t you lay a finger on them! Withdraw!”
He once challenged Sigmund to a fight but was defeated, and currently fights along side him in order to eventually gain chance to challenge him again.
Basically a good-natured man, Balbagan can usually be found either eating or sleeping. However, on the battlefield, he willingly puts himself on the front line, wielding a huge battleaxe.
Balbagan tries to view the world as simply as possible, believing that thinking is other people's responsibility, and fighting is his.
Toma (15)
“To think they could be so much the same… Fate certainly is a strange thing.”
A Haineyl who serves the royal house of Halgita, known as a Shadow, Toma is a childhood friend of Sigmund's, and thus one of the few people that know his past. He carries himself in a confident and dignified manner, but can also be quite naive to the world around him. He appears to fight with a katana.
NOTE: The official English translation names him "Touma."
Komachi (15)
“I shall refer to you as the Hero, and stay by your side, just as I did with him. Please keep me under your command.”
A quiet and obedient spy, Komachi, like her anscestors have for generations, serves the nobles who govern Halgita’s information organization. She appears to nurture feelings beyond the lord-retainer relationship towards her master, Toma.
Though she generally completes her assignments neatly and diligently, when it comes to something involving Toma, she tends to become something of a clutz.
Vika (12)
“Didn’t I say it would have a payout? Hehe! Let’s rake it in!”
A member of a street gang in Kernten, Vika makes a living by selling black market information.
Lightning fast, Vika is very talented at catching his opponents off guard.
He tends to be full of himself, but feels like he can only rely on money, making him quite calculating.
He begins to refer to Capell as “older brother.”
Gustav (??)
”Rawr?”
A bear that Aya has kept since she was little, Gustav is an extremely rare species known as a Crimson Bear. He was once considered to be too wild to tame, and it was often said that he would never be able to grow close to people. Though he is now very fond of Aya, he still does not take well to her companions, and is especially wary of Capell, often ending up biting him.
Solenstam (??)
“The source of… a much larger power? What could this…?”
A Haineyl known as the Star Reader, Solenstam is gifted at astrological prophesies, but is also incredibly versed in all knowledge.
He used to live hidden deep in the Forest of Burgas, but after experiencing a terrible vision, joins Sigmund’s group in an attempt to prevent it from coming true.
Kiriya (22)
“I said people break. Death is nothing more than one way of breaking.”
One of Solenstam’s disciples, Kiriya is a chemist skilled in many medicines. However, due to his rude way of speaking, and heavily sarcastic nature, he has few friends.
He tended to the hut in the Forest of Burgas, and has been researching many topics relating to the moon, including the Lunar Rain.
He has no patience for those he considers to have no skills, however he is very loyal to those he respects. Thus, he accepts orders from Solenstam to accompany and assist Sigmund and the Liberation Forces.
Serafima (20)
“Kris… Please act more honestly.”
An alchemist serving the Kernten Federation, Serafima almost never speaks or shows emotion, and is near impossible to read. However, she is actually very sensitive to the needs of others, and performs her duties and feminine roles as the model of sincerity.
She is inwardly perplexed by Kristofor’s advances towards her, and as a result treats him with a much more rigid attitude. However, she appears not to hold any ill-feelings towards him.
Kristofor (29)
“I know, Serafima. That is all just another way of expressing your love.”
Having a strong affinity for beautiful things (especially women), Kristofor’s way of speaking noticibly changes whenever he is talking to a woman.
By nature, Kristofor is a groundless drifter, however he decides to settle down in the Kernten Federation after he becomes convinced that he and Serafima are destined for each other, and that they share a deep, mutual love.
He is generally laid back, but when it comes to something he considers to be important to him, he knows no shame in doing whatever it takes to protect it from his hated injustice and evil.
Dominica (27)
“That’s the ship I almost got on. I’m going no matter what you say.”
A woman who hates secrets and indirectness, Dominica believes that any action to protect the people is reasonable. Because of this, she does not think well of Sigmund’s method of sacrificing something to save something larger, and often offers biting criticism.
Dominica has known Aya for a long time, and takes care of her as if she were a younger sister.
She is always on the lookout for some reason to have a party, and can drink anyone under the table.
Subaru (??)
“You are such a pure-hearted child… You can’t tell a single lie, can you?”
The ruler of the Queendom of Halgita, Subaru is a long time acquaintance of Sigmund's. She instantly takes to Capell with a very motherly attitude. She seems to support the Liberation Forces. It is unknown if she will join in combat.
Faina (16)
“I’m not sure what I can do, but… if I can be helpful to Capell-san in any way, I’ll do whatever I can!”
A young girl who lives in Shopron Village, Faina takes a strong affinity to Capell after he saves her younger brother when he becomes separated from the camp. Though she possesses no combat skills, she provides Capell with moral support, and becomes a very understanding friend to him. She tends to become quite jealous of Aya, who gets to travel with Capell.
Laim (8)
“My big sister worked really hard, saying that she might be able to see her beloved Capell!’ Right, big sister?”
Faina’s little brother, Laim is rescued by Capell when he gets separated from the camp. Though he is quite shy, he becomes quite amiable to those he gets to know. He is quite sensible and intelligent for his age, perhaps due to his journey as a traveling merchant.
Leonid (??)
”Your life shall be a sacrifice to the Moon. This is also the desire of our God.”
The man who chained the Moon, he has come to be known as the Dark Noble, and is the personification of people's hatred and fear.
He created the Sealed Army in order to gather the power of the Moon, and plans to achieve godhood through that power.
Sarande (24)
“You’re quite useless, aren’t you? Is this all the Sealed Knights can do? If he had seen this, I’m sure he would be quite disappointed.”
A woman who serves as a leader in the Sealed Army, Sarande is in a close position to the Dark Noble. She is infatuated with Leonid, and wishes to always be with him.
She possesses a sadistic side that enjoys harassing her opponents to no end, while she also has a hidden side that harbors a deep love for the Dark Noble.
NOTE: The official English translation names her "Saranda."
Infinite Undiscovery is available now in North America on Xbox 360 from Square Enix, tri-Ace, and Microsoft.

The hand-drawn art is a lot prettier than the in-game character models.
A very true statement. I wish the art directors/character modelers had been a little more faithful to the original artwork.
That being said, the characters actually actually look quite good in motion. The still screenshots, however, often look creepy.
