E3 2008: A Fresh Look at Dungeon Hero

Destructoid had a chance to sit down with Gamecock and Firefly Studio's upcoming Xbox 360 and PC RPG Dungeon Hero, and has brought us some details to go with it.

Dungeon Hero, for those of you who might be hearing about this title for the first time, is a dungeon crawling action-RPG. That sounds basic enough, but Firefly's goal with the game is to make a dungeon really "come alive." Thus, the game's emphasis is definitely on the dungeon itself. The monsters that inhabit said dungeon are not simply sitting around waiting to get slashed in half by exploring heroes. They, in fact, all have lives of their own.

As the hero of the story progresses through the dungeon, he will certainly fight monsters and uncover treasure, but meanwhile, all the monsters around him will continue about their everyday business.

The combat is said to be handled in a more "realistic" fashion, focusing on timing and accuracy rather than button mashing. Additionally, it was revealed that enemies will generally attack in groups, and have designated leaders who pose more of a threat than their henchmen. The battle interface will apparently highlight the most dangerous foe in any given encounter, giving the player the level of importance each enemy plays in the battle.

Dungeon Hero sounds like it has a lot of good ideas, and, from what I've seen of it, definitely has some great potential.

The game is still in the middle of development, and is tentatively planned for release sometime mid 2009 from Gamecock Media Group.
