Though most of the information on Xbox Japan's RPG site is nothing you haven't heard before (especially if you regularly read Sword Machine), there is some new info on Star Ocean: The Last Hope (at least, new to me).
In the tradition of good RPG promotion (that Japan rocks at, and North America tends to suck at), there is some art and a profile blurb for the two main characters of tri-Ace's next next 360 RPG. I have spared no effort in translating up the blurbs and grabbing some screens of the characters for your own enjoyment and enlightenment.
Edge Maverick
"I can't just leave our comrades who might be stranded out there!"
An honest young man with a strong sense of justice and responsibility, Edge volunteered to be part of the first SRF (deep space pioneering) Mission out of a strong desire to help humanity after the tradgedies of World War III. Thus, he sets off to explore space beyond the Solar System. Though he is very skilled at situational analysis, he is often seen as reckless by those around him, possibly due his tendancy to suddenly jump into action. For this, he is frequently on the receiving end of lectures from his childhood friend, Reimi.
Reimi Saionji
"It's because I believe in you, Edge"
The distinguished daughter of the prestigious Saionji family, Reimi has trained in Japanese archery from a young age, and possesses master-level skill with the bow. She is kind-hearted, and considerate of all around her, but is very hard on herself, and at times feels crushed under her own pressure. Like Edge, she has volunteered for the first SRF Mission at a young age, and leaves on her journey to deep space. In the squad, she acts as the level-headed, supportive second in command to Edge.
In addition to the above provided artwork, tri-Ace's official site also includes the following character renderings. The screenshot lists these renders as real-time, in-game models, which is like, holy crap!
Maybe its too early to say this, what with ToV and IU so much closer to release, but it looks to me like tri-Ace has another winner on their hands, and that wait for Spring 2009 just suddenly felt a lot longer.
What do you think? Any DO WANT for you with this game?

0_o Man,those characters rendering pics so breathtaking and extremely awesome...>_< I can't wait to get this game so bad...
Aaah, but I still have to play Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant first while waiting for this game..^__^
Agreed, looks awesome! I love the star ocean games! can't wait to see the reat of the characters... cause you know they have to have one small, ugly annoying guy aswell!
Love the art! Maybe I'll try this out, never played a Star Ocean game before. Is this coming to PS3 eventually?
@k4z3ryu: Yeah, I'm glad we have so much to play between then and now. RPG flood ftw!
@Giggity: Roger to return in SO4, confirmed? O_o
@Billy: Star Ocean is a long running series that started on Super Famicon from some of the main developers originally behind the first Tales of game (Tales of Phantasia on Super Famicon). Thus, they have quite a bit in common with the Tales of games, so if you like those, you'd probably like Star Ocean. If you have a PS2, SO3 is a greatest hits in North America, so if you can find yourself a copy, it might be worth it to give it a spin, as it looks like SO4 will play similarly.
As for a PS3 port, that is anyone's guess. My gut reaction is to say no, as there has never been a multiplatform game from tri-Ace in the past. tri-Ace is a private company that has a publishing deal with Square Enix, so I don't know how much say SE has in their development. However, I suppose there is always a first for everything.
I guess the short answer to your question is that it's unlikely, but not impossible.
Hope that helps. =)
Thanks for the rec, I'll pick up Star Ocean 3 and throw it on the backlog! Not sure if the battle system is for me, but for $20 it's worth a shot. I just made a (small) killing on eBay selling all my old SNES RPGs anyway. :)
You would sell your SNES RPGs!?
BLASPHEMY!
Well the batteries would just run out eventually. :) Any anyway, I've already replaced nearly everything with handheld ports. Now that Chrono Trigger is coming to DS, Secret of Mana and FF Mystic Quest are the last stragglers.
