All Your Consoles are Belong to Overlord

So, Overlord. Kind of a different take on the whole "evil super villain plots to take over the world" gig by making you that evil super villain.

Well, apparently people liked this game enough to warrant three more.

Overlord II, the direct sequel to the PC and Xbox 360-then-ported-to-PlayStation 3 game, will be making its way to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 (at the same time this time around) reportedly sometime in 2009. It is being developed by Triumph Studios, the same developer behind the original, and according to them, "massively increases the scope of the original concept."

Overlord II is set to feature a new "enemy," the Glorious Empire, and will expand on the type and depth of the minions at your command.

For those gamers among us who just can't live without the waggle, Overlord: Dark Legend has been announced for Nintendo Wii. Dark Legend is apparently poised as a prequel to the original, and will follow a younger Overlord as he learns the ropes of world conquest. Motion controls have been confirmed, the most interesting of which looks to be "minion strangling." Overlord: Dark Legend is being developed by Climax Studios (Silent Hill Origins, the PC port of Viva Pinata, and other such notable (?) titles).

Finally, for those gamers who want to conquer on the go, Overlord: Minions will be hitting Nintendo DS, also under development by Climax, and also set for 2009 release. Described as more of a puzzle game, Minions puts you directly in charge of a "Special Farces" minion squad, enabling direct commands via the touch screen.

I still haven't gotten around to playing the original Overlord, and though I've heard it was humorous and interesting, I never got the impression it was a huge hit. But I guess Codemasters would disagree with me on that one.

So, anyone out there stoked for the Year of the Overlord?
