Infinitely More Undiscoveries Ahead!

Tales of Vesperia is out in Japan, and apparently doing quite well. Though we still have a couple weeks left to wait, Japan is of course looking forward to their next Xbox 360 RPG, tri-Ace’s Infinite Undiscovery. A few new characters and game features have been shown off in last week’s Famitsu, and I have them translated below for your reading pleasure.

New Character Profiles

Phyena (16)
“I’m not sure what I can do, but… if I can be helpful to Capell-san in any way, I’ll do whatever I can!”

A young girl who lives in Shopron Village, Phyena takes a strong affinity to Capell after he saves her younger brother when he becomes separated from the camp. Though she possesses no combat skills, she provides Capell with moral support, and becomes a very understanding friend to him. She tends to become quite jealous of Aya, who gets to travel with Capell.
P.S. This is a really tough name to make look good in English.

Rayme (8)
“My big sister worked really hard, saying that she might be able to see her beloved Capell!’ Right, big sister?”

Phyena’s little brother, Rayme is rescued by Capell when he gets separated from the camp. Though he is quite shy, he becomes quite amiable to those he gets to know. He is quite sensible and intelligent for his age, perhaps due to his journey as a traveling merchant.

Komachi (15)
“I shall refer to you as the Hero, and stay by your side, just as I did with him. Please keep me under your command.”

A quiet and obedient spy, Komachi, like her anscestors have for generations, serves the nobles who govern Halgeetah’s information organization. She appears to nurture feelings beyond the lord-retainer relationship towards her master, Toma.

Newly Revealed Game Systems

Private Events
Upon entering a town or village, the characters will split up temporarily to go about their own business. Finding them and engaging them in conversation will often trigger Private Events (PE). Through these events, Capell’s relationship with the other members of his party will be effected via Emotion Points. These Emotion Points will also have an effect on how your party behaves in battle.

Connect Action
“Connect Action” is a system that allows the player to take direct control of party members other than Capell. Though you will be playing as Capell for the majority of the game, there are various actions that Capell cannot do, and will need to be approached by a different party member. We have already seen this demonstrated in battle, but this article introduces Connect Actions in towns. Through connecting to other characters, they will take the place of Capell, and can explore the town, speaking with other people. To activate a Connect Action in a town, the player need only approach the desired character, and a prompt will appear for connectable characters. After that, it’s just a matter of pressing the button.

Reflect Drive
During combat, pressing the button in correct timing with enemy attacks will allow you to avoid taking damage, and bounce it back at the attacker. This ability is called Reflect Drive. Successfully performing a Reflect Drive will temporarily render the enemy defenseless. If you launch an attack during this time, you will often be able to finish off the attacker in one shot!

I can’t wait to get Komachi! Ninja girls FTW!

And love triangle? Sweet action!

Also, this game looks so badass, I don’t quite know what to do with myself. Though I’m very happy to be getting my hands on this and ToV within a couple of weeks of each other, I feel a little torn as to which I should play first! They both deserve my full attention!

And, yes, Private Events are basically Star Ocean’s Private Actions. But honestly? I think a lot of games ought to be including events like this, and it looks like they fit quite wonderfully with Infinite Undiscovery.

tri-Ace rocks.
