Namco Bandai Trademarks Even More Tales of Titles

So, PlayStation 3 is getting a port of Tales of Vesperia, Wii is getting the new Tales of Graces, and PSP is getting Tales of Vs. (not an RPG, but still a Tales of). That's a lot of Tales of, you say. Surely there won't be anymore Tales of this year, you say.

Well, Namdai doesn't know the meaning of "too much," and to prove it, has trademarked 3 more potential Tales of titles, which are reportedly:

Tales of Blessea
Tales of Unifics
Tales of Battle Fandom

Yikes.

It is interesting to note that Tales of Blessea is remarkably similar to the previously trademarked Tales of Blessia, and Tales of Unifics seems like a variation on the previously reported Tales of Unitia. It is further interesting to note that the original Blessia and Unitia were trademarked at different times, which is usually indicitive that they were for separate projects.

So, either someone is going trademark crazy at Namdai, or there is one or two more Tales of projects needing trademarks in the pipeline.

Interesting.

Also, Tales of Battle Fandom? Seriously? They couldn't come up with something a little better sounding?

A Small Pile of Tales of Trademarks

Namco Bandai recently filed to trademark a small fortune of Tales of titles, presumably for upcoming titles in the popular RPG series.

In Japan, Namdai trademarked Tales of Floweria / Tales of Floria (the katakana is the same for these two, but both versions of the English were trademarked separately), Tales of Gracia, Tales of Unitia, Tales of Blessia, and Tales of Startear.

Floweria, Gracia, and Unitia were all trademarked at the same time, while Blessia, Floria, and Startear were trademarked together a little later.

Meanwhile, the company has trademarked Tales of Graces and Tales of Vs. (presumably pronounced "versus" rather than "vee-es," though I'm just guessing here) here in North America.

Putting on my educated guessing hat for a moment, Namdai typically trademarks three tentative titles for one project at once, only to pick one as the final later. For example, Tales of Vesperia's alternate trademarks were Tales of Strife and Tales of Valoria.

Considering that a total of 6 titles were trademarked in Japan - again conveniently in sets of 3 - it is easy to assume that the company has at least 2 Tales of games in the works nearing at least a semi-completed state.

Also, since テイルズオブフローリア (Tales of Floweria/Tales of Floria) was trademarked twice with different spellings, someone over there likes that name, and could end up being one of the titles used.

To guess further, since the title Tales of Graces was trademarked here in North America, I have $5 that says Tales of Gracia/Tales of Graces is the next title to watch for, and may even be the name of the yet un-named Tales of title in development for Nintendo Wii.

Tales of Vs.? Hm, maybe that's a Smash Bros.-inspired Tales of fighting game? (Think Dissidia with Tales of characters instead.) I don't know, it's just a guess.

Japanese Trademarks That You Might Find Interesting

Kotaku has posted some trademarks from a bunch of prominant Japanese publishers, which they found through GoNintendo, which were apparently posted on NeoGAF. So if you're hearing about them here, this will officially be 4th hand information.

The CAPS LOCK ENTRIES are part of the original trademark, while the italicized entries are the romaji equivalents, and the Upperlower Case Entries are rough translations (some are by Kotaku, some are by me).

Sega's Shining Force Gear is most certainly the next entry into the long-running Shining Force series, so that is one to definitely keep an eye on (fingers crossed for an HD console entry).

I would also venture to guess that at least one of Square Enix's trademarks will be a new RPG, and there is some speculation that Blood of Bahamut may be related in some way to the obscure SNES RPG, Bahamut Lagoon. A remake? A series revival? Or (more likely) a DS port of the original? Only time will tell.

However, by far my favorite tradmark is Namco Bandai's Ultimate Destruction Machine Gun Game. I mean, how much cooler of a name could you make up? Not only are there Machine Guns, but they are ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION machine guns. Holy crap man.
