The last publisher (so far) out of the gate to announce their TGS lineup, Microsoft finally got around to announcing their TGS showings this morning... and it is just as pathetic as Sony's. Take a look at the only Microsoft-published RPG title confirmed for the show:Hands-on TitlesFable II - Xbox 360...Really?Dear console manufacturers: please list your own titles. Not your console's titles. We all know that Star Ocean 4, Fallout 3, and Last Remnant are on your console, and that they are playable at your booth. We want to know what you are putting on your console!Well, here's to hoping everyone is just holding off on the announcements.
You can check out Microsoft's full list of everyone else's games that they are showing off here.
Sony has revealed "their" lineup for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. And the list is a long one. ...Except for the fact that barely a fraction of the games they are showing are even theirs. Which is like, what?Of the enormous list of other companies' games, the following are actually published by Sony and are RPGs:Hands-on TitlesYuusha no Kuse ni Namaiki da or2 - PSPYep. That's it.You might think you are seeing double here, since YnKnNdor2 was already on Acquire's list, but Sony is publishing it, so you needn't worry.Though Level 5's Shiro Kishi Monogatari (White Knight Story) is nowhere to be seen on this list, it was said that the game would indeed be playable at the show in some fashion. So yeah.Additionally, Sony claims that they have 9 more proprietary PS3 titles and 3 more proprietary PSP titles to show off that they aren't spilling the beans on at the moment. One of those is likely White Knight. You can check out the "full" "official" list here.
Konami has recently released their showing list for TGS (today seems like a popular day for this). You can check out what RPGs they're planning to show below:Hands-on TitlesAkumajou Dracula: Ubawareta Kokuin (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia) - Nintendo DSGensou Suikouden: Tierkreis - Nintendo DSThey also are showing off a PC game called Chaotic Eden, which I have never heard of before and doesn't have its own site. I'm not sure if this is an RPG or an MMO or what, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. You can check out the official full list here.
Acquire has just revealed (most of) their TGS lineup, the majority of which are RPGs. Take a look at the list below:???-on TitlesYuusha no Kuse ni Namaiki da or2 - PSPDan - Damu (Dungeons and Dam) - Nintendo DSKen to Mahou to Gakuen Mono. - PSPThey also have a "surprise" title to show off that will be revealed at the show. It may or may not be an RPG.You can check out the full official list here.
Well, TGS is just around the corner, and the last few big Japanese publishers are finally posting their showing lineups. Check out what RPGs Namco Bandai is planning on showing off next week:Eyes-on TitlesSuper Robot Taisen Z - PlayStation 2Hands-on TitlesFragile: Sayonara Tsuki no Haikyo - Nintendo WiiTales of Hearts (Anime + CG Editions) - Nintendo DSTales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 - PSPThe list contains nothing really surprising in any way, but its nice to see that Fragile and ToH will be playable. You can check out the full official list here.
Next up in the TGS lineup announcements is Capcom. Their rather small RPG showing is as follows:???-on TitlesMonster Hunter 3 - Nintendo WiiMega Man Star Force 3 - Nintendo DSYep. That's it. It would be really nice to hear about a new Breath of Fire on a 7th gen system, if only highly unlikely.Raise your hand if you are excited about Capcom's TGS RPGs!
Third out of the gate for TGS lineup announcements (at least as far as I am aware) is Sega. There are no surprises in the list (of course), but they have also mentioned the lineups of their partner companies (which I will also list RPGs from).Take a look and prepare to be not-surprised!???-on Titles7th Dragon - Nintendo DS
Blazer Drive - Nintendo DS
Culdcept Saga DS - Nintendo DS
Garnet Chronicle - PSP
Infinite Space - Nintendo DS
Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 2 - Nintendo DSPhantasy Star Portable - PSP
Phantasy Star Zero - Nintendo DSShining Force Feather - Nintendo DSWorld Destruction - Nintendo DSIf you haven't heard of Culdcept Saga DS or Blazer Drive before, I apologize for not covering them. Honestly, they looked too boring to bring to your attention. Intrested parties may view their official sites to see what they're all about here [Culdcept Saga DS] [Blazer Drive].Below are their partners' scheduled titles that fall into the RPG category:???-on TitlesItem Getter - 5pb. Games - Nintendo DSKnights in the Nightmare - Sting - Nintendo DSMimana: Iyar Chronicle - Kogato Studio, GungHo Works - PSP...and several visual novel games. The partners' titles are actually slightly more intriguing to me than Sega's actual lineup, especially since I've never heard of some of them before. Interestingly enough, GungHo doesn't list their other 2 upcoming RPGs for show at TGS (Ragnarok Online DS and an obscure SRPG called Hero's Saga Leavatein). You can check out Sega's TGS lineup list here, and their partner's lineup list here. (May require a working understanding of Japanese.)It would be nice to get an RPG announcement for a not-portable system, but I won't hold my breath. I guess I'll just be happy enough to see Bayonetta. How about you? Anything you're looking forward to from Sega?
Second in the foray of TGS lineup announcements is Marvelous Interactive. Suprisingly, the majority of the games they are showing off this year are RPGs! Cool beans! Here's what they've revealed is making the show so far:???-On TitlesArc Rise Fantasia - Nintendo WiiAvalon Code - Nintendo DSHarvest Moon: Animal March - Nintendo WiiLittle King's Story - Nintendo WiiOboro Muramasa Youtouden (working title) - Nintendo WiiRune Factory Frontier - Nintendo WiiIt is currently unclear which titles will be playable, and which will only be in trailer form, but the list is impressive nonetheless. It seems like Marvelous has really taken it upon themselves to bring RPGs to the Wii. I'm sure there aren't many of you complaining about that.I am personally most happy to see that Vanillaware's Oboro Muramasa Youtouden is still alive and well, and will be at the show in some fashion. It looks doubtful that the game will make it out this year (as had been originally promised), but just to know that it is on track for a release is certainly good news.
Well, we are about one month away from this year's Tokyo Game Show. Since the drastic downsizing done to E3 in the past couple of years, TGS is now the biggest trade show in the game industry (though Leipzig is certainly not far behind). As we get closer to the event, many publishers will inevitably be releasing their showing list, and the first out of the gate is RPG goliath Square Enix. Check out what RPGs they're planning to show off thus far:Hands-On TitlesChocobo's Mysterious Dungeon DS+ - Nintendo DSChocobo Tales: The Witch, the Girl, and the Five Heroes - Nintendo DSFinal Fantasy IV: The After - Cell PhoneKingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days - Nintendo DSKingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep - PSPThe Last Remnant - Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PCStar Ocean: The Last Hope - Xbox 360Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One - Nintendo DSEyes-On TitlesChrono Trigger - Nintendo DSDragon Quest IX - Nintendo DSFinal Fantasy XI - PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, PCFinal Fantasy XIII - PlayStation 3, Xbox 360Final Fantasy Agito XIII - PSPFinal Fantasy Versus XIII - PlayStation 3Infinite Undiscovery - Xbox 360Kingdom Hearts: Coded - Cell PhoneParasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday - PSPSong Summoner - iPod???-On TitlesEllark - Cell PhoneIt is kind of surprising to see that Dragon Quest IX, a game that has been in development for what seems like a millenium, is only going to be at the show in trailer format. The ???-On Titles are equally interesting. I would hope that The Last Remnant will at least be playable in some form, as it will be launching on Xbox 360 only about one month later. This list, of course, may not be diffinitive, as Square Enix sure proved at E3 that it has more up its sleeve than it likes to let on sometimes. You can check out Square Enix Japan's TGS list page here to see what other non-RPG titles they will be showing off. (Like Snoopy DS.)
UPDATE: It seems that both The Last Remnant and Star Ocean 4 will be playable at the show. They will also have new trailers on display as well. Nice!
The (relatively) newer Japanese-to-North America game publisher XSEED (who brought us all of the Wild ARMs games since 4) has recently announced additions to their scheduled E3 showcase. With their recent partnership with the Japanese publisher Marvelous, few of these titles will be a surprise.Hands-onLittle King's Story - Nintendo WiiValhalla Knights 2 - PSPEyes-onAvalon Code - Nintendo DSRune Factory: Frontier - Nintendo WiiIn addition to these RPGs, XSEED has also announced a few other games, including DS music synthesizer KORG DS-10 from AQ Interactive.A couple of things strike me as curious with these announcements. (1) Avalon Code is not available even in Japan yet. With this announcement as well as Majesco's AWAY: Shuffle Dungeon announcement, it seems like there are efforts being made to bring Japanese DS content over in smaller timeframes. (2) Rune Factory: Frontier is coming from XSEED, not Natsume. If you'll recall, Natsume has had a long-standing agreement with Marvelous to bring all of their Harvest Moon games stateside. Though the Rune Factory sub-series is certainly unique from the orthodox Harvest Moon games, it still seems like it would qualify as a title Natsume would want to hang on to, especially considering they are bringing over Rune Factory 2 on DS... And (3), KORG is coming over???? Wow.
E3 starts on Monday. Though a few companies are being a little tight-lipped on their RPG lineups (Atlus, Namco Bandai, I'm looking at you), Square Enix has given up quite the list:
Hands-on Titles
Chrono Trigger - Nintendo DS
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen - Nintendo DS
Final Fantasy IV - Nintendo DS
Infinite Undiscovery - Xbox 360
Song Summoner - iPodEyes-on Titles
The Last Remnant - Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Star Ocean: The Last Hope - Xbox 360
Star Ocean: First Departure - PSP
Star Ocean: Second Evolution - PSP
From this list we can glean a few interesting details: (1) Chrono Trigger DS is far enough along (in English) that it is playable. (2) The Star Ocean PSP remakes are (most likely) making their way to North America! (3) Final Fantasy XIII is AWOL. (Of course.)
Also, I'm interested to see what new content is presented for Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, and Star Ocean 4.
...And you can keep your lame iPod game, Square Enix.
