Atlus Dates Demon's Souls for North America

Sony and FromSoftware's Japanese WRPG, Demon's Souls, has been available for the PlayStation 3 since early this year in Japan, and has even been available in English in other Asian regions. But a version that North Americans can finally call their own will be available this Fall from Atlus.

That's a long time to wait, you say. I mean, wasn't the Asian version in English? Why don't I just import it? you ask. Well, Atlus understands your dilemma, and in order to try and make the decision easier for you has offered to include a bunch of extra stuff with the game.

Demon's Souls deluxe edition will be available on the same day as the regular edition, and will include an art slipcase as well as a strategy guide. Many places are also offering a limited art book for customers who pre-order on top of that.

Demon's Souls will be available for PlayStation 3 on October 6, 2009 in North America. It is already available in Japan and Asia.

I suppose these are nice additions, but I have to wonder why it took so long to localize a game that already had full English included. Was it really that bad?

Atlus Announces Demon's Souls for North America

No rest for Atlus, apparently, as the localization company that isn't content to rest on its laurels has stepped forward to announce their first PlayStation 3 project, FromSoftware and Sony's Western-style RPG, Demon's Souls.

Despite poor reviews in Japan, the English version of the game has been available from China for a while now, and it has earned a following amongst Western RPG fans and some favorable reviews in Europe.

Different from most RPGs coming out of Japan, Demon's Souls allows you to customize your own hero and choose how you want to progress the game's story.

Demon's Souls will be available for PlayStation 3 sometime this fall.

I still think this game looks half-assed. Sort of surprising that Sony didn't want to bring it over themselves, since the game is clearly designed in a Western-RPG style.

Demon's Souls Trailer Wants to Eat Your Souls

FromSoftware and Sony Computer Entertainment have recently revealed a new trailer for their upcoming hack-n-slash PS3 RPG, Demon's Souls. Give it a watch below.

While I really dig want they've done with the CG movies and music in this trailer, the gameplay still looks rather unremarkable. I guess we'll all know how it turned out soon, though.

Demon's Souls will be available for PlayStation 3 on February 5, 2009 in Japan.

Oh Crap. Demon's Souls Dated for Early 2009

Remember that awful TGS demo of Sony and FromSoftware's PS3 RPG, Demon's Souls? Yeah, the one that everyone thought, "Well, it's probably just an early build." I guess not so much, as Sony has just revealed that the game will be available next February in Japan.

Now, I'm not saying that things couldn't be tightened up with the next 2-3 months, I'm just saying that it's not looking good.

Oh, here are some scans for the game if you'd like. I'm giving up hope on this one until someone can prove my fears wrong.

Demon's Souls will be available on PlayStation 3 in Japan on February 05, 2009.

TGS 2008: Demon's Souls Gameplay is Weaksauce

Sony is showing off their most recently announced RPG in collaboration with FromSoftware, Demon's Souls, and are presenting a hands-on demo on the TGS floor. You can check out the action below.

My honest opinion of this footage is... it needs work. Pretty badly too. The graphics are quite well-done, but that's about where my positive comments end. The battle system is clunky, awkward, and slow-paced. The enemy AI seems retarded at best. And the lack of interaction with the environment begs the question of where exactly FromSoftware is focusing their efforts. And perhaps the scariest part about this game is, this is no early build. The graphics and physics are clearly well in place, and Sony is obviously confident enough in the game to give show goers a hands-on demo. Yikes!

Luckily for them, they've set the release date as a safely vague "2009," so they tentatively have over a year to clean it all up. But still, presenting this mess for playable hands-on seems like a bad idea to me.

Sony Reveals Demon's Souls

Remember yesterday when Sony said they have 9 PS3 games to announce that weren't on their official list? Well, here's one of them: Demon's Souls.

Developed by FromSoftware (Evergrace, Enchanted Arms), Demon's Souls is described as an action-RPG set in a dark fantasy world.

Unfortunately, the currently available scans are too difficult to read to give you full details at this moment, but from what I skimmed over, it appears that the game will be focused only on one player-created hero (who is nameless, as far as I can tell) who will be pitted against gigantic boss monsters (seemingly a common theme in a lot of darker action-RPGs these days).

Though I honestly have to say that I don't have a lot of faith in FromSoftware as an RPG developer (I don't mind their action games - especially when they're cheap), it is nice to finally see Sony shelling out for some exclusive RPGs.

Demon's Souls will be available for PlayStation 3 sometime next year from SCEJ, and will be playable at TGS next week.

I will take translation requests for the first two pages (I won't translate the interview on the last two pages) once some easier-to-read scans hit the internets.
