According to Square Enix employee Yuuki Akama's LinkedIn profile, Final Fantasy XIV is in development for Xbox 360 on top of its already confirmed PC and PlayStation 3 iterations.
Though not an official announcement by any means, this information is hardly surprising considering Square Enix's comments on the title at last year's E3, hinting that the game could indeed show up on any console.
Since Square Enix and probably Microsoft would rather you hear about this apparently big news from them officially, the LinkedIn profile has been hastily removed, so we'll go ahead and label this one with a trusty RUMOR tag.
Just try to act surprised when someone makes a big deal out of the official reveal.
Final Fantasy XIV has been announced for release sometime this year for PC and PlayStation 3.
Square Enix's upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 RPG Final Fantasy XIII is apparently a big deal, and big deals tend to get Collector's Editions. According to GameStop Italy, FFXIII will indeed be getting the Collector's Edition treatment.
According to the listing on the site, the bundle in question will reportedly contain a soundtrack, art book, prequel story, comic book, and collection of art cards. Oh, and the game. Obviously.
The Collector's Edition will reportedly run for €80 (~$110). Pricey. But, I guess that is a lot of stuff.
Since this is the only reported listing at the moment, we're going to have to take this one with a grain of salt and a good old RUMOUR tag, but the FF Fanboy in you wants to believe it's true, right? ;)
Early last year, Square Enix began an episodic cell phone RPG based on the fan favorite Final Fantasy IV, known as Final Fantasy IV The After: Tsuki no Kikan (Return of the Moon). The game followed Cecil and Rosa's son roughly 17 years after the ending of the original title, and used the same 2D graphical style of the original SNES title.
Since Japanese cell phone titles are rarely, if ever, localized outside of Japan, I (along with many others) disregarded this as something we would never see.
According to the ESRB, however, Square Enix is planning a release of a Nintendo Wii title called Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. The ESRB describes it as a 2D turn-based RPG, so there is good reason to believe it to be a port of the cell phone title.
Currently, Square Enix has had no official comment on the listing, so it could really go either way, as an ESRB rating does not always guarantee a release (hi ASH). Thus, it will have to remain a RUMOR for the time being.
If the title were released, it is thought that it would likely be released via the WiiWare downloadable service, though whether it would retain its episodic format is anyone's guess.
According to Siliconera, a tipster dropped them a line and a screenshot (posted at the bottom of this post) to say that Atlus has at least 5 more portable RPGs in the pipeline due before summer.
The info allegedly comes from an Amazon.ca listing, showing off Super Robot Taisen OG: Endless Frontier, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (Megami Ibunroku: Devil Survivor in Japan), Knights in the Nightmare, and Dokapon Journey for Nintendo DS, and Crimson Gem Saga (Garnet Chronicle in Japan) for PSP.
If the leak is true, Dokapon Journey is the closest title, with a listed release of April 14, while Devil Survivor is the latest, supposedly scheduled for June 23.
The listings are (of course) no longer up on Amazon, and Atlus has yet to comment on the authenticity of the listings.
Yeah, but, they're probably all true. Poor Atlus just can't catch a break with these announcements. :P
Okay, so we all know that the next Tales of is going to the Nintendo Wii. We also have one vague leaked screenshot. But now, we have an equally ambiguous leaked trailer!
The leaked trailer shows the same dude that was in the screenshot, as well as some Wii-ish looking graphics and battles. It's a little fuzzy, but it looks like its running on the same engine (or an upgraded version of) as the recent Tales of Symphonia 2.
No name yet though.
Consider this a teaser for this weekend's JumpFesta where we expect to get the full reveal.
If you live in Japan and pre-ordered the recently released The Last Remnant on Xbox 360, you would have received a nifty little disc with a bunch of stuff on it. Among that stuff you would have found the opening video to tri-Ace and Square Enix's next upcoming Xbox 360 RPG, Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope.
But what if you don't live in Japan, or didn't get around to pre-ordering? Don't worry. Via the magic of the internet, the video has been leaked for all of your watching enjoyment. Also, it's embedded below:
While interesting, I was a little disappointed with the opening, mostly because it shows scenes we've already seen through the last few trailers. Also, it doesn't feature any of the playable characters. Just backstory.
Nevertheless, the game still looks sweet.
Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope will be available on Xbox 360 in Japan on February 19, 2009, and in North America on March 03, 2009. The European date has yet to be announced.
Seems like it's PSP day today or something. Anyways, since I posted the leaked The 3rd Birthday trailer, I figured I might as well finish the job and post the leaked FFaXIII trailer for you as well.
Please note that the quality is even worse than the T3B trailer, but it does show off the combat a little bit. Looks like ATB or something closely related to it.
Looks pretty card-related. Therefore, I am not interested unless they can prove that it isn't completely retarded.
Sneakily caught on someone's camera, I present to you the recent TGS trailer of Square Enix's PSP (originally cell phone) revival of their horror-RPG franchise, Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday (which I still think is a retarded name).
The quality is obviously going to be poor, but it captures the whole trailer, music and everything. Too bad there is no gameplay shown. At least they left the theme music the same.
Anyone excited to bust some mitochodria-mutated heads?
So, the next Tales of (after Tales of Hearts) is going to be on the Wii. ...Aaaand that's all we know.
However, the press got a look at the game (in some fashion) at Nintendo's recent Not-TGS presser, and some wonderful soul grabbed a (fairly decent) snapshot of one of the characters in-game.
The pic really doesn't give us much to go by, and I can't even determine who the lead artist for the game is. My guess is Mutsumi Inomata, but from that angle, it really could be anyone. It is rumored that Team Destiny is heading up the project, but then, it is rumored that Team Destiny is also heading up the upcoming Tales of Hearts. ...Are they really that capable?
