RPGs of the Week: Japan is Loved Edition

Welcome to the first full week of August, and a new summer month of underacheivement in the RPG new releases world! Yes, another exciting month of almost nothing new at all is upon us, and I can't think of anything comforting to say about it. I'm sorry.

Check out what's coming out (in Japan and nowhere else) this week (August 3 - 8, 2009):

North America

(none)

Japan
Blood of Bahamut - Square Enix - Nintendo DS
Final Fantasy IV - Square Enix - WVC
Item Getter: Bokura no Kagaku to Mahou no Kankei - 5pb. - Nintendo DS
Magna Carta II - Softmax, Namco Bandai, Banpresto - Xbox 360
My Room Paradise - iStudio - PC
Sonic Chronicles: Yami Jigen kara no Shinryakusha - BioWare, Sega - Nintendo DS

Europe
(none)

I suppose the biggest title of the week is Softmax and Banpresto's Magna Carta II for Xbox 360. Announced as one of the first RPGs for the 360 back before the console's launch, it has apparently taken years to reach us. (And by "us" I mean Japan, because North America and Europe are still waiting on a date.)

Square Enix's Blood of Bahamut - a title which I could really see being extremely cool or extremely lame - is also hitting Japanese DSes this week, along with 5pb.'s oft forgotten Item Getter. BioWare and Sega's Sonic RPG finally hits Japan as well this week, and Square Enix is dropping off the SNES classic Final Fantasy IV onto Japanese Wii Virtual Consoles. There's also supposedly a PC game called My Room Paradise which I really can't seem to find any real info on, so it may or may not exist (or be an H-Game, which is also highly likely).

North America and Europe get a big middle finger instead of a new RPG. Unpleasant.

Anything looking worth your cash this week?

Why name the blog Sword Machine? (Just wondering, seems there is a deeper meaning to it)

to me sword cuz alot of rpg's have swords in them ? lol.

or something along those lines.

anyways do u think ur ever gonna make a sword machine forum ? any cheap free one would do just fine i think.

i would definitely like to see a SM forum someday where we can all discuss the rpgs we like/dislike along with news and more.

@zerolocked:
i chose Sword Machine because most RPGs are set in either fantasy or sci-fi universes, and often have either swords, machines, or (very commonly) both. i was originally planning a name with 'RPG' in the title, but eventually felt like Sword Machine was a more original (and cooler) name.

@anon:
like you, i would love to see Sword Machine become a valid enough site to warrant its own forums, but as i said before, i only do this as on the side when i have time (which i don't have much of lately). -_-;
however, if you really want to sign up for a free forum or something, please feel free to open an Unofficial Sword Machine forum somewhere, and i will be happy to link to it from the main sidebar.

@Brandon: I'm quite good in programming websites and stuff, and if you want something that could be better than a blog, i could maybe get it done for you. Just ask if you're interested in it. (i won't ask for money or anything, i do this as a hobby)

I also think that Sword Machine is a cool name x)

back to the topic, i'll soon try Blood of Bahamut and tell you what i think about it
(i'll test the japanese one, but whatever, i'll at least understand the basics of the game mechanisms :p )

@Shryver: thanks for the offer! right now, i don't have a lot of time to put into the blog/site, so i can't ask you to go out of your way at the moment.

hopefully, once i have some more time for everything, i might indeed take you up on your offer. thanks.
