X10: Microsoft Announces Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 Bundle

UPDATE: According to Gamekyo, Europe will actually be getting two 360 bundles. In addition to the previously announced black Elite bundle, European gamers will also be given a white 'Super Elite' bundle that will come with the Special Edition of the game instead of the standard edition.

So, uh, still no Special Edition for NA, then? :(

Rumored earlier this week, Microsoft has
taken a moment at their currently in-session press conference, X10, to announce a Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 bundle.

For North America, the bundle will include a white 'Super Elite' 360 console (250GB HDD), 2 wireless controllers, all the usual wires and accessories, a 'standard' copy of FFXIII, and exclusive FFXIII-themed Avatar items.

Seeing as no 'special' or 'limited' edition has been announced for North America yet, it seems strange for Microsoft to specify that a 'standard' version of the game will be included. Hmmm...

Europe will also be getting a FFXIII 360 bundle, but it will be a black Elite (120GB HDD) with the same contents.

In addition, there will be several limited FFXIII white faceplates distributed across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Finally, Microsoft has announced that Xbox 360 is the only console that will receive a Final Fantasy XIII bundle outside of Japan, which is a pretty big deal considering its current 'exclusive to PS3' status in Japan.

The bundle will launch at the same time as the game on March 9, 2010, and will retail for $399. If I didn't have a 360 already, that would actually be a pretty sweet deal.

I don't really get this bundle. It seems to me that if you could get the game for either platform, the PS3 version makes more sense. The only people who will get the 360 version are those (like myself) who only have a 360 and aren't willing to buy a new console for this one game. So, this bundle is targeted at a gamer who doesn't exist.

I don't know about that.

This bundle will likely appeal to people who have been interested in 360 games, but have put off buying one for whatever reason. It also will appeal to the few insane people that compulsively MUST buy everything Final Fantasy related ever (who, believe it or not, do exist).

In my admittedly limited experience, it seems that people (before buying a console) are more persuaded to one or the other. While you're right that this may not appeal to those who are leaning PS3, it may be the thing those leaning towards 360 need to push them to buy a console.

Besides which, if you were going to buy a console right at FFXIII launch, this is clearly a much better deal than buying a PS3 and FFXIII separately. (It's even a better deal than buying a 360 and FFXIII separately).

People are not as PS3-obsessed as the comments sections on some sites might lead you to believe.

But if you were basing your entire next-gen console purchase on one game, wouldn't you go for the higher quality version of that game, however slight the differences? I can't imagine that people who haven't been interested in a single 360 game before FF13 are going to care about things like avatars and gamerscore.

Most people that based their entire console purchase on one game (FFXIII) already bought a PS3 at launch. (Which explains a lot of the complaining when the game was announced for multiplat.)

Most rational people wait until enough of the stuff they want is on a platform. As I mentioned above, I believe this will be seen as a good deal mainly for people who are already thinking of buying a 360, and want/like Final Fantasy too.

People who are wanting a PS3 (and nothing else) will obviously have nothing to do with this bundle. Either they'll wait for a different deal from their console of choice, or break down and buy both separately.
