Old News: Gust Announces Atelier Totori

If you follow Japanese gaming news closely, you're probably well-aware that Gust has announced their third RPG for the PlayStation 3, a direct sequel to last year's Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland, which will be called Atelier Totori: Alchemist of Arland 2.

Taking place approximately 8 years after the events of Atelier Rorona, the story follows the young and shy alchemist Totooria "Totori" Helmold, who leaves her small fishing village in search of her adventurer mother who disappeared several years prior.

The game is in development for PlayStation 3, and appears to be running on the same engine that Ar Tonelico 3 and Atelier Rorona were developed on, and is planned for release in Japan early this summer.

As usual, the Atelier series remains one of the most charming obscure RPGs on the market, but since NIS will likely publish it over here, you might want to consider importing if you'd like to play it any time within the near future.

Atelier Totori: Arland no Renkinjutsushi 2 will be available for PlayStation 3 on June 24, 2010 in Japan.

lol yeah we haven't even got the first one yet.

nis is really slow at bringing games overseas it seems.

ar tonilco 3 looks pretty decent too, too bad we probably won't be getting it until next year if at all.

I was okay with NIS's slowness when their localizations were still good. Their recent attempts have been pretty terrible, and have mysteriously ADDED bugs.

Personally, I'd much rather see a different company pick these up, as we'd probably see a faster turn around AND a better localization.

Also, Ar Tonelico III looks like the worst Ar Tonelico yet. :(

Atelier Rorona and Totori look cool though.

yeah man, i dunno 3 looks decent, what don't u like about it ?

i actually wasn't too interested in the first 2, but maybe this one.

also ur probably right, but it seems there isn't very many companies left, i mean atlus has a full plate i'd say, and i dunno bout xseed, who else is there ? lol.

3 has the weakest character design so far (I don't really dig the loli stuff), and what I know of the story really doesn't jive with me.

Certainly the graphics are much nicer than the PS2 titles, but even AT2 was so weak in every way compared to the original. 3 just looks like its trying to please some kind of perverted audience rather than have a legitimate game.

And Atlus is far from having a full plate. Even compared to last year their released seem to have gone down by half. At this point, even Aksys, XSEED, and Ignition have better track records than NIS in my book.
