Watch Someone Else Play the Final Fantasy XIII Japan Demo

The Final Fantasy XIII demo is out in Japan. If you bought it, you've already played it and can ignore this post. If you didn't, but don't want to spoil anything, you can also ignore this post. But if you didn't buy it, and want to see it anyway, well then this kid that played the demo and upped it on YouTube is probably your favorite person for the week.

Send him some flowers or something.

Final Fantasy XIII is due out sometime this year in Japan on PlayStation 3, and sometime next year on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Overlord II and Overlord: Dark Legend Gameplay for the Meglomaniac in You

Codemasters has recently dropped two gameplay teasers for the upcoming sequel and prequel to the original Overlord, Overlord II and Overlord: Dark Legend (respectively).

The gameplay trailers really feature little more than solid gameplay, and it looks like more Overlord. If you liked the original, it looks like there's more to like here, but if you were never really sold on the concept, I didn't see anything that would change your mind.

Anyways, just watch the trailers.

Overlord II

Overlord: Dark Legend

Lots of minions destroying, razing, and murdering. Good times if you are in the market to kill the good guys and conquer the world.

Both Overlord II and Overlord: Dark Legend will be available in North America this June in North America. Overlord II will be available for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. Overlord: Dark Legend will be available for Nintendo Wii.

Star Ocean 4 Gameplay is HAWT

Square Enix just updated the official Japanese Star Ocean 4 webpage, and again has brought us some in-game vids.

You can truck over there to check them out yourself, or you can watch the embedded versions below courtesy of Gamekyo.

Myuria and Bacchus team up for a Rush Combo

Reimi fights off Raid Attacks

Eirmat pulls a Sight Out

I don't always post every gameplay vid that surfaces online, but these were just so damn sexy, I couldn't help myself. Aaaah! Only 25 days to go! (Yes, I'm counting.)

Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope will be available for Xbox 360 on February 19, 2009 in Japan, February 24, 2009 in North America, and April 24, 2009 in Europe.

Save the World in 30 Seconds in Yuusha 30

So, you have a problem. You have a burning desire to overthrow the hordes of evil and save the world from the shackles of darkness, but you also have a full schedule today, and you just don't think you can fit it in.

No worries, Marvelous has your back with their upcoming PSP RPG, Yuusha 30 (lit. Hero 30).

Yuusha 30, as the name implies, asks you to save the world in under 30 seconds. Yeah, 30 seconds man! You better hustle your ass.

The game features a mash-up of old-school 8-bit and 16-bit graphics combined with tried-and-true game mechanics, but with an extremely short time limit.

There are actually 4 different games in Yuusha 30. The game for which the overall title is named for, Yuusha 30, is a turn-based RPG that pits you, the hero, against the Demon King. You have 30 seconds to get the quest from the King, fight enemies to build your level, buy items and equipment, raid the Demon King's fortress, and defeat the evil lord himself. In 30 seconds.

There is also Oujo 30 (Princess 30) which plays like a shoot-em-up with the Princess trying to return home from being kidnapped under the protection of the Knights of the Kingdom. Again, you have 30 seconds to blast through the hordes of monsters and get her home safely.

3rd is Kishi 30 (Knight 30) which pits one knight against a mass of monsters in a top-down action-RPG. Yeah, and the 30 second limit.

Finally is Maou 30 (Demon King 30), which plays like an RTS, allowing you (the Demon King this time) to command your evil minions to conquer the kingdom. And, yes, you have to do it in 30 seconds.

I have to think there must be a way to increase your time limit by pulling off certain things, because I just can't imagine being able to get very far in 30 seconds. Hell, the game's trailer (embedded below) is longer than 30 seconds!

The game seems quite interesting, though, and the premise intrigues me. How will this work? Will it be addicting and innovative, or so difficult that it will make you want to throw your PSP against a wall?

People interested in seeing more of the title can check out the official Japanese site here.

Yuusha 30 is currently planned for a May release in Japan on PSP.

Devil Survivor Gameplay Video Almost Shows Combat

If you want to see what Atlus' Megami Ibunroku: Devil Survivor plays like right before you fight a battle, then this clip is especially for you.

Featuring some protagonists talking and demons appearing out of thin air, the video in question brings you right up to the critical moment where a battle begins and then! ....totally leaves you hanging. But hey, it shows a turn order appear in the upper section of the screen.

Z0MG! TURN-BASED STRATEGY CONFIRMED!

Megami Ibunroku: Devil Survivor will be available on Nintendo DS in Japan on January 15, 2009. No word on a North American or European release at the moment.

Post-TGS 2008: Moar SO4 Gameplay, Now with 95% Less Sound

Korean gaming site RuliWeb has just posted some of their own gameplay footage from Microsoft's booth at the recently concluded Tokyo Game Show, and it is probably the best quality footage I have seen so far (except the audio is next to inaudible). Unfortunately, they don't provide streaming options (maybe they do, I can't read Korean), but someone has graciously uploaded the vids to YouTube.

Watch below!

As you know, Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope will be available on Xbox 360 on February 19, 2009 in Japan, and on March 03, 2009 in North America.

New Suikoden Tierkreis Trailer is Heavy on Anime, Light on Gameplay

As with the recently-posted Tales of Hearts trailer, the following new Suikoden Tierkreis trailer is heavy on intense anime scenes of action and drama, and decidedly light on DS gameplay (not that I can blame them for not wanting to show it). Watch it, plus a new "gameplay" trailer (read "talking" trailer) below!

TGS 2008: Demon's Souls Gameplay is Weaksauce

Sony is showing off their most recently announced RPG in collaboration with FromSoftware, Demon's Souls, and are presenting a hands-on demo on the TGS floor. You can check out the action below.

My honest opinion of this footage is... it needs work. Pretty badly too. The graphics are quite well-done, but that's about where my positive comments end. The battle system is clunky, awkward, and slow-paced. The enemy AI seems retarded at best. And the lack of interaction with the environment begs the question of where exactly FromSoftware is focusing their efforts. And perhaps the scariest part about this game is, this is no early build. The graphics and physics are clearly well in place, and Sony is obviously confident enough in the game to give show goers a hands-on demo. Yikes!

Luckily for them, they've set the release date as a safely vague "2009," so they tentatively have over a year to clean it all up. But still, presenting this mess for playable hands-on seems like a bad idea to me.

TGS 2008: Wind of Nostalgia Gameplay Feels Oddly Familiar

I'm not going to go for anything witty on this one. There is Wind of Nostalgia gameplay footage below. It reminds me of Skies of Arcadia. etc. etc.

TGS 2008: Tales of the World 2 Gameplay is Remarkably Unremarkable

You know what's been done to death? Original characters. Pffft. Screw that noise. All we really want are cross-over RPGs with all of our favorites packaged neatly into one bland game.

Well fear not fellow originality haters, for Namco Bandai is bringing its cameo mash-up Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 to the PSP. It is, naturally, the follow-up to the incredibly awesome Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology (note the lack of a '2' there).

Take a good look at all the awesome cross-overage that you will be able to do.

Let's just hope that this game gets a North American release over that distastefully original Tales of Hearts.

TGS 2008: Phantasy Star Zero is Portable, also Online

You can't keep Sega down. Only months after the huge reception of Phantasy Star Portable, they're back at it with a new Phantasy Star MMO on Nintendo DS, Phantasy Star Zero. But maybe you've been worried. I mean, how can something as small and ancient as the Nintendo DS really handle something as massive and multiplayer as Phantasy Star online?

Perhaps this gameplay trailer will put your mind at ease.

TGS 2008: Tales of Hearts Evokes Nostalgia

Me? Long time Tales of fan. And while I'm not particularly pleased that the series' platform of choice is the DS, Namco Bandai's upcoming Tales of Hearts brings back a certain nostalgia for the series' simpler times. Specifically, I get quite the Tales of Eternia vibe from this game (ToE being one of my all-time favorite Tales of titles).

Take a watch below and see if you share my sentiments.

TGS 2008: Oboro Muramasa Gameplay is Dead Sexy

Perhaps some of the hottest stuff you'll see at TGS this year, take a look at the gameplay video released for Marvelous and Vanillaware's upcoming Oboro Muramasa (Muramasa: The Demon Blade in North America).

The video presenter also gives you a run-down on what to expect in terms of content and gameplay, and actually offers one of the most complete previews out of TGS so far.

Watch and be amazed!

Dead. Sexy.

UPDATE: MOAR! Also, direct feed trailer.

TGS 2008: Fragile Gameplay is Explorerific

Do you like exploring abandoned places? Enjoy carrying a flashlight with you wherever you go? Prefer to defeat evil using a golf club? Then Fragile: Farewell Lunar Ruins is made especially for you.

Check out Fragile's exploration-heavy, combat-light gameplay below, and prepare your flashlight pointing skills.

I think this game looks pretty sweet. The combat looks a little clumsy, but it is clearly not the main focus of the game (at least in the demo area).

TGS 2008: Watch the Beginning of Arc Rise Fantasia So You Won't be Surprised

Maybe sometimes you just can't make yourself play a game because you haven't seen the game's first 5 - 10 minutes. You think to yourself, "If only someone else would play the first 5 minutes of that game, maybe I would be more interested." Well, you officially have no reason to wonder about Arc Rise Fantasia anymore, as the demo available at TGS is just that. The first 5-ish minutes of the game.

Watch and be at peace.

The game actually looks pretty cool. On the radar.

TGS 2008: Gameplay of The Last Remnant, I Don't Know What the Hell is Going On

So I watched the new gameplay vid for Square Enix's upcoming The Last Remnant, and I... don't get it. Like, what is going on? What are you supposed to do? I just can't figure it out...

Watch the vid below and tell me if you understand how you play this game. Because I can't right now.

TGS 2008: Monster Hunter 3 Vid has Hunting, also Monsters

There are 2 things that you will see in the below Monster Hunter 3 trailer: (1) Monsters, and (2) people hunting those monsters.

If you were looking for a video where people do things other than hunting monsters, you would be well advised to look elsewhere.

Between this and Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, I'd have to say that this game definitely looks a lot better translation from PSP to Wii. Still not exactly my cup of tea, but could have some potential if executed well.

TGS 2008: Riz-Zoawd in Action, Japanese Explanation Voice Abounds

Media.Vision and D3 have released a playable demo of their upcoming Wizard of Oz RPG, Riz-Zoawd, which will walk you through using the game's track-ball navigation system and turn-based battles.

Take a watch below:

Looking interesting. I just hope that persistent explaining lady stops talking at some point.

TGS 2008: Star Ocean 4 gets Release Dates, Gameplay

During Microsoft's TGS press conference, it was announced that tri-Ace and Square Enix's Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope will be available in Japan on February 19, 2009, and will be available in North America on March 03, 2009 (less than a month apart!).

Additionally, a new trailer was released for the game, as well as a fully playable demo. Check out the first vids below (thanks to Gamekyo):

Undiscover Some New Gameplay Vids

This will be short.

New Infinite Undiscovery gameplay footage on IGN.

Go watch it.

Looks kick ass.

Also, I hope there is a Japanese voice-track option. The English ones aren't bad, but I really like the Japanese ones. Fingers officially crossed.
