Final Fantasy XIII gets a North American/European Release Date

If you like Final Fantasy, you may be pleased to hear that Square Enix has finally gotten around to giving the 13th main installment of the enormously popular JRPG series a release date outside of its home turf.

In a special press release issued today, Square Enix has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Final Fantasy XIII will be released simultaneously in North America and Europe on March 9, 2010, a mere 3 months after the Japanese PS3-only release.

Among story and gameplay tidbits revealed in the press release, it is interesting to note that Square Enix has licenced the song "My Hands" by Leona Lewis to replace Sayuri Sugawara's "Kimi ga Iru kara" (lit. "Because You are Here") as the game's theme song in the West. Currently, it is unclear whether or not the Japanese language track will be included in the Western release.

It's nice to see Square Enix working hard to get the game into our hands sooner than later, though I'm never a fan of dropping original content out of localizations.

definitely somewhat suprised, didn't think it would be coming here until about a year later.

yet they managed to do the same as magna carta 2, just few months after the japanese release.

credit to squeenix, though i dunno if i'll really be diggin the game, i love rpg's but i haven't been particulary interested in any FF titles in many many years....seems they've lost their soul or something along the way, for me anyway.

we'll see i guess, but from what i've seen though it does look to be one of the better Ff games of late.

yeah, i know what you mean. FFX was the last title in the series that even resembled a FF game in my mind, and I didn't really like it. i don't play MMOs, so I skipped FFXI, and FFXII was just an abomination.

FFXIII looks like a cross between FFVII and FFX (the two most well-loved titles, apparently), so they are clearly trying to win back fans. whether or not they will succeed in creating a game that is good enough to restore my faith in the series remains to be seen, but they've done enough that i've decided i'm interested enough to pick it up.

though i doubt it will knock either FFIX or FFVI out of my favourite spots.

Final Fantasy is my favorite series, and FF12 was the best game of the last generation, so I'm pretty excited for this. :) It does definitely look like a cross between VII and X stylistically. I'm not a fan of totally replacing the theme song (was the singer they picked this time not bilingual, so they couldn't just have her do an English version?) but I guess it's not the end of the world.

Also, for anyone who's getting the game on 360, you can sign up on xbox.com to get a free FF13 gift. There's some kind of Twitter promotion that will reveal what the gift is. A FF13 avatar T-shirt or something would be pretty neat I guess.

anyways i agree with brandon i haven't botherd with a FF game since 10, and i didn't even bother finishing it, just didn't cut it for me.
